Autumnal Wild Wreath
The season shifts, the wind blows cold, and the colors in the garden are a blaze with the vibrancy of the setting sun. The transition feels so fast that I want to harness the moment. This is a time of year with lots of textures in the garden. Berries, seed pods bursting open, and branches once full of leaves now reveal their bright colors.
With this wreath, I wanted it to reflect the slip into winter. There’s still so much color to be found in the garden. With so many overlooked details from the summer months that find themselves at center stage once again.
I cut a 20” wreath ring in half, then secured a long branch from the twiggy dogwood to each side.
Weaving willow around the branch allowing a natural, wild feeling to come through in the design.
I then filled each side with additional bundles of willow and twiggy dogwood, giving the wreath volume and while plotting my next adds. This includes firethorn, corkscrew witch hazel, and seed pods from fireweed.
Lastly, a giant velvet cognac bow doubled and enhanced by multiple loops of the same ribbon, but thinner.

P.S. - I’m pleased to report that this wreath made it through a big storm we had last week. No loss of branches, and the bow looks just as beautiful as it always has!
